Area Youth Invited to Take A Kid Mountain Biking Day

Stevens Point, WI  - Youth and families are invited to the “National Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day” on Saturday, May 22. The event will be held at Standing Rocks County Park from 1-3 pm, and is free and open to the public.

Point Pursuit Mountain Bike Club and Wisconsin Off Road Series (WORS) are hosting the annual event.  “This is a great way for our club to introduce people young and old to the fun and exciting sport of off road biking,” said event coordinator Brian Hicks

There will be guided rides and a skill area geared toward those who have never ridden their bikes on off-road mountain bike trails. Helmets are required! Youth between the ages of 6 and 15 are eligible for prizes and giveaways, including a drawing for a new mountain bike.  All ages are encouraged to ride.  “It has been a great event over the past 7 years, bringing out kids and parents alike to learn about our trails and introduce them to the sport,” said Hicks.

The Portage County Parks Commission has waived the Standing Rocks mountain bike trail fees for the day of this event to encourage people of all ages to check out the bike trails. Standing Rocks County Park is located approximately seven miles east of Plover at 7695 Standing Rocks Road.

The drawing will be held at 3:00 p.m. for registered participants. To be eligible for the prize drawing, including a new mountain bike, participants must be between the ages of 6 and 15 years old, accompanied by an adult, and be able to ride a bike without training wheels. Participants must be present to win. Water bottles and Cliff products will be given away to all.

The event is possible with the support of… The Hostel Shoppe, Campus Cycle and Sports, IMBA (International Mountain Bike Association), Portesi Italian Food, Portage County Parks Department, WORBA ( Wisconsin Off Road Biking Association), and WORS ( Wisconsin Off Road Series).
